Picks

So I am going to start a new “pick” article on here. I’m going to try and update this on the regular so that everybody can be informed of what I am listening to and playing. I know I have about of year of backlog so for the initial section you’ll have to bear with me if it’s a bit lengthy or a bit of old news, but I’m going to throw some stuff up I’m feeling is noteworthy…
PS That picture is my typical post work late night position. Lounging on the floor listening to some tracks on blast from an old PA system I stratigically placed in my room.
Brian
This track is absolutely it. It has that deep moody sound and erie pitched down vocal sample. In my opinion this is future bass. True dub track. Extra points for the person who can message me the vocal sample on Facebook. When I heard this for the first time it haunted me like a couple of my favorites from this last year. If you hadn’t heard Kastle’s Better off alone or Lung’s Afterlife (Kryptic Minds Remix) you need too. It is that bass music that has feeling, something that the run of the mill brostep is lacking these days. Moving on…
2. anything Sazon Booya
I’ve been playing a lot of Moombahton in my sets. Everybody’s been rocking Dillon Francis’ jump up style of 108 booty shake, but these guys are HUGE on my list. I mean, did you check out their video they got Nada giving a miniview it don’t get more legit than that. All there tracks are hot but my top pick from these guys is Bam Bam. They are really keeping the original latin flavor. For all you iTuners go cop their la bomba EP, support some original moombahton production. Honorable mention, and honestly it is hard to choose between the two, goes to DJ Sabo. He is a legend. Period can DJ anything go hunt out his free Moombahton Massive EP’s.
3. Drop the Lime- Hot as Hell (Canblaster Remix)
First off, don’t let the horse sample run you off…think of it as horsestep. This is weird wild massive tune. I know it’s been out for a while, but to be honest I totally slept on opting to play the Para One remix insted. But, I was litstening to an old DJ Mehdi set (rest in peace. you will be greatly missed by many) and he dropped it. When the breakdown hit I about fainted. The old spaghetti western sound that would make Ennio Marconi say well done in Italian. As a matter of fact it could be a Ennio Marconi sample from one of his scores? I’ll look into it. Absolutely Brilliant. For the record I have no clue why it’s Dillon Francis in the you tube video pic on the link.
While I mentioned it go and check out the Mehdi Set the folks at Mad Decent put up from their block party. Mehdi’s death is truly sad and untimely. The man will go down as such an important figure in French house music and dance music in general.
I’m gonna leave the post at that because I need to sleep sometime. I’ll leave you with one more. You want to get down with ya girl while rocking some moombahton… grab some Moombahsoul. Thanks to David Heartbreak and his work on his amazing compilations the world can now have both. These edits are creative and timeless. You can crab all the Moombahsoul compilations for Free as well.
