CSGD presents… Music

Posted: October 13th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »

Last night, well morning (5 a.m. still counts as night), I threw together a one take mix.  I had been wanting to post something new up on here for everybody to get a hold of.  As I was putting together all the links and uploading, damn you sound cloud for hanging like five times, I thought we need more of these up here… So here is the first installment in a new series called “CharlieSaysGetDown presents… Music.  Getting you ready to stay warm for the upcoming winter.  Nothing all that extraordinary or groundbreaking or exclusive… Just good records.

Just in…the d/l is available off of the Soundcloud stream.  It however is lacking the original track off of the mix…don’t ask my opinion on that one.  If you want the full mix, and you know me, I’d be more than happy to give you a copy.

Thanks to everyone who came out to support the Downtown’s Oktoberfest party last Friday.  If you missed it your boy held the beer tent down from seven until eleven and then countinued the party inside til close.  Also, Be sure to make your plans to get down to Indianapolis Sat. the 22nd to catch me at the Cosmic Promotions event with Vaski.

Oktoberfest

Posted: September 29th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »

Because this is up on this site, I guess you gotta assume the DJ at nine is DJ Tanner…  I’m hoping you can put two and two together and get “hot DJ + at the DT = (DJ Tanner) Good night.  Well again this year I’ll be back to do the Downtown in Warsaw’s Oktoberfest party.  If you didn’t make it out last year it was a real cool event.  They shut the block down, set up a beer tent, and have food.  Plan to come earlier and enjoy all that… plus an earlier set from me to set the mood.  Then the night soldiers on until the wee hours.  They will also have beer and liqour promotions going on all night, and I have a special guest via text commitment.  Thats right Brandenberger will be on hand to help me give away free stuff all night long.  This will be a all day and night funfest not to be missed.  Brought to you by the good people at the Downtown.  (For all my northerner’s who haven’t been there its right in downtown Warsaw on center street across from the court house)

And in honer of the early set, and because everybody that I dropped it too wanted to download a copy, I got a download of mix I just threw together…  Literally threw together in one take at like six a.m. so excuse any sloppy mixing haha.  It’s all old school disco edits of old school songs.   If  you checked a previous post it has a name AOR (adult oriented rock)  all edited up and ready for a dance floor.  It’s like listening to WRSW and the oldies station with a dj who actually is mixing.  This is probably the only place I’ll put this up so it’s not on sound cloud or anywhere else but CharlieSays!

It has come to my attention that the halloween throw down that Brett and I noramally play is not going down this year.  As a matter of fact that is where I got this sweet picture of me a couple years ago.  We think this is a shame.  That is why I am bringing the question to you, the people.  What should we do for halloween.  Throw a party, talk to some bars around here and get a party there, or…take the weekend off, haha.  Now I am biased on big halloween costume parties so my vote won’t count.  If you have a thought leave a comment on here or get at my facebook!

Here’s a little treat too… first heard it on Diplo’s moombahton 2k11 mad decent radio podcast.  Straight from JWLS from JWLS and GTA fame.  We need this track in our lives BASHIN’

Picks

Posted: September 20th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Mixtape, Moombah, News | No Comments »

More picks…  Mainly because I forgot two that I really wanted to mention but got really tiered of writing last week.

1.  DJ A-Mac and Paul David- O-Way-

I have been supporting A-Macs tracks for a while.  I first heard him earlier this year dropping some heat on a Canadian radio show.  His Long Train to Moombahton on the Moombahton Massive EP was just killed it when I heard that Doobie Brothers sample drop in Sabo’s Dubspot podcast.  This song takes it to another level.  As a matter of fact this track would have been number one on my list of epic moombah’s if it got it’s proper release out before summer.  (However I still had to give that honor to Todla T and Dillon Francis’-Take it back (Dillon’s remix), you can catch that at the end of my summer beatdown mix.  The sliding lead totally reminds me of ATB and the keys are epic, with a drop to die for.)  O-Wey, none-the-less is a simply amazing track.  It’s one of those rare crossovers that is both an outstanding moombahton track but would not sound out of place as a stand alone track in any house set.  I promise it will get you moving.

2. Bosco Delrey-  Wild One (Reset! Remix)

This one is for all the rockers out there.  It’s bluesy guitar riff and vocal are something different in dance music.  But it’s this Reset! remix that brings the energy.  This one is out now on the Mad Decent vol. 1 comp. including another gem, the So Shifty remix of Major Lazer’s Keep it Going Louder.  And keeping with the moombahton trend in front of it I’ll link up the Neki Stranak remix of the remix!  Boom.

Guilty Pleasures

Posted: September 20th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »

I was up browsing my facebook on my phone link and I came across somebody who had posted the lyrics to George Michael’s Careless Wisper.  And I thought to myself what a freaking great song. Then I thought is that a guilty pleasure…if so, then I have plenty of them.

Everybody has got them.  Songs that will always put a smile on your face and that you can’t help singing obnoxiously loud and off key too.  Here are a few of my guilty pleasure jams

Steely Dan-  purely the best cocaine soaked white-boy jazz funk ever.

Steve Winwood-  yacht rock at it’s finest.  Recently made hipster exceptable by It’s Always Sunny…

Playing out Bobby Brown-  I started using the beat from don’t be cruel under Party in the USA to give it a more early 90′s swag feel.  Plus it made playing Miley Cyrus out more interesting for me when I finally had to break and honor a request.

I really want to hear some of your guilty pleasures please post them in the comments or on my facebook wall!

While we are on the topic I was reading my issue of mixmag that I get sent to me late every month from across the pond, and they had an article about a little blog called AOR Disco.  I would highly recommend this if you feel me on any of the above mentioned.  They score the internet for disco edits of classic adult orrianted rock (AOR) cuts.  They are not just guilty pleasures they find edits of classic tracks, that we have all heard somewhere, that make them a touch more dance floor friendly.

And on an absolutely humorous note, this sunday we were hanging out watching sunday night football.  Someone mistakingly called me full of myself so I broke out in tune, belting out Tina Turner’s simply the best.  Then to pass the time during a commercial break I decided to sing along with the song playing from  a youtube video.  We were all pleasantly floored by the dancing, and attire, haircut of the keyboard player at 1:25 and several other points including his air humping sax solo at the three min. mark… simply fucking hilarious.

So as I was writing the post on my moombahton summer mix I thought…wouldn’t it be great to put some pictures up from the Frog’s booze cruise, or MoomBOAHTcruise as I like to call it, last Saturday.  It would be really cool to have some shots of people having fun and getting down to some moombah on the lake.  Then I realized it’s hard to play records and take cool pictures at the same time and I don’t have any.  Back when we started this site a couple years ago I made a post saying that since summer was coming we were looking for interns.  That was a joke.  This isn’t.  It would be really cool to have more people get involved in this and push it forward.  So, if you come to our events and take pictures for us at an event or night.  We want you!  But don’t stop there.  If you like dance music and fun and perhaps you want to be creative and write some articles, welcome aboard.  You like playing music, dj, or produce?  I’m listening, send me some stuff.  The bottom line is if you’re intersted get a hold of me.  Leave a comment with your contact info, send me an Email (b.r.fanning@gmail.com), or hit me up on facebook.

Picture of people having fun at one of our nights… I need more of this.

Get a hold of me!

Throwback

Posted: September 16th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »

I felt like putting up an old flyer that Teddy did for a night at the frog a couple years ago.  I got a kick out of it.  Scaring the old people.  Hahaha great.  But seriously he does some great work with graphic design and web based solutions so if you need anything like that you should get a hold of him.

DISCLAMER:  Do not show up at this show.  It’s over.

Do show up at one of my other nights, perhaps at the downtown Oct. 8th

Picks

Posted: September 16th, 2011 | Author: | Filed under: Uncategorized | No Comments »

So I am going to start a new “pick” article on here.  I’m going to try and update this on the regular so that everybody can be informed of what I am listening to and playing.  I know I have about of year of backlog so for the initial section you’ll have to bear with me if it’s a bit lengthy or a bit of old news, but I’m going to throw some stuff up I’m feeling is noteworthy…

PS That picture is my typical post work late night position. Lounging on the floor listening to some tracks on blast from an old PA system I stratigically placed in my room.

Brian

1.   Hackman- Close

This track is absolutely it.  It has that deep moody sound and erie pitched down vocal sample.  In my opinion this is future bass.  True dub track.  Extra points for the person who can message me the vocal sample on Facebook.  When I heard this for the first time it haunted me like a couple of my favorites from this last year.  If you hadn’t heard Kastle’s Better off alone or Lung’s Afterlife (Kryptic Minds Remix) you need too.  It is that bass music that has feeling, something that the run of the mill brostep is lacking these days.  Moving on…

2.   anything Sazon Booya

I’ve been playing a lot of Moombahton in my sets.  Everybody’s been rocking Dillon Francis’ jump up style of 108 booty shake, but these guys are HUGE on my list.  I mean, did you check out their video they got Nada giving a miniview it don’t get more legit than that.  All there tracks are hot but my top pick from these guys is Bam Bam.  They are really keeping the original latin flavor.  For all you iTuners go cop their la bomba EP, support some original moombahton production. Honorable mention, and honestly it is hard to choose between the two, goes to DJ Sabo.  He is a legend.  Period can DJ anything go hunt out his free Moombahton Massive EP’s.

3.   Drop the Lime-  Hot as Hell (Canblaster Remix)

First off, don’t let the horse sample run you off…think of it as  horsestep.  This is weird wild massive tune.  I know it’s been out for a while, but to be honest I totally slept on opting to play the Para One remix insted.  But, I was litstening to an old DJ Mehdi set (rest in peace. you will be greatly missed by many) and he dropped it.  When the breakdown hit I about fainted.  The old spaghetti western sound that would make Ennio Marconi say well done in Italian.  As a matter of fact it could be a Ennio Marconi sample from one of his scores?  I’ll look into it.  Absolutely Brilliant.  For the record I have no clue why it’s Dillon Francis in the you tube video pic on the link.

While I mentioned it go and check out the Mehdi Set the folks at Mad Decent put up from their block party.  Mehdi’s death is truly sad and untimely.  The man will go down as such an important figure in French house music and dance music in general.

I’m gonna leave the post at that because I need to sleep sometime.  I’ll leave you with one more.  You want to get down with ya girl while rocking some moombahton… grab some Moombahsoul.  Thanks to David Heartbreak and his work on his amazing compilations the world can now have both.  These edits are creative and timeless.  You can crab all the Moombahsoul compilations for Free as well.
